No. Neither UK-sold sleep gummy this desk read on 15 September 2026, Novomins Night Time Gummies or Mium Lab’s melatonin-free gummies, lists melatonin on its panel. The NHS states that melatonin supplements are not authorised for sale in the UK and that melatonin is a prescription-only medicine; UK sleep gummies use vitamins, minerals, amino acids and botanicals instead.
That is the whole answer to whether sleep gummies in the UK contain melatonin, and it is evergreen; what earns a review is what the UK panels put in melatonin’s place.
Why is melatonin not sold over the counter in the UK?
The NHS melatonin page states that in some countries melatonin is sold as a supplement, but those products are not authorised for sale in the UK and melatonin here is a prescription-only medicine. It shows last reviewed 13 February 2023, next review due 13 February 2026.
The MHRA’s borderline-products guidance, last updated 2 July 2026, states that the MHRA determines whether a product falls within the definition of a medicinal product, and lists food supplements among the borderline categories it decides on. The classification argument is in our piece on whether melatonin is a food supplement or a medicine in the UK.
What do UK sleep gummies contain instead of melatonin?
The US column is contrast only: Lemme Sleep is not sold as a UK product and this desk makes no claim that it is available or lawful to sell here. Its own FAQ puts a full serving at 5 mg melatonin, or 2.5 mg per gummy.
Novomins Night Time Gummies, read as a label
Novomins says the quiet part out loud: its copy reads that most sleep gummies force melatonin in and that its product helps the body make its own. L-tryptophan, the amino acid the copy says converts to melatonin, is 10mg per serving; glycine is 30mg; L-theanine is 20mg.
Magnesium is printed as magnesium citrate 10mg, the salt rather than elemental magnesium; the panel’s own 3% NRV tells you how little that is, and our magnesium review explains why the form line matters. Chamomile extract is printed at 40μg, micrograms, beside lemon balm at 40mg. The NRV column also needs a second look: D-biotin at 6mg is given as 200%, which implies a reference value of 3mg, and B12 at 100ug as 240%, which implies about 42ug. This desk did not read the NRV table this run; the column is a question for the brand.
Mium Lab melatonin-free sleep gummies, read as a label
For two gummies it prints eschscholtzia dry extract 50 mg, lemon balm dry extract 30 mg, vitamin B6 1,4 mg and L-theanine 10 mg, with a full ingredient line beneath. The copy promises lemon balm, California poppy and pale rose; the ingredient line, read in full from maltitol to pyridoxine hydrochloride, names no rose.
The headline is “Shortens sleep onset time”. The page’s clinical-studies section names one source, a 2014 paper in the Mediterranean Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism on lemon balm, without a figure, and describes L-theanine and eschscholtzia trials without naming them.
The claim wordings, and what this desk did not check
Novomins’ copy says its B vitamins, magnesium and zinc contribute to psychological function and regulate hormonal activity; Mium Lab says B6 contributes to the normal function of the nervous system. This desk read the Great Britain nutrition and health claims register’s gov.uk page on 15 September 2026, last updated 19 May 2026, but did not open the spreadsheet this run, so it prints no verdict on any of these wordings. Our piece on permitted claims trailing the marketing explains how to check one yourself.
Can you buy melatonin gummies in the UK?
Not as a shelf product. The NHS melatonin page, read by this desk on 15 September 2026, states that melatonin supplements sold abroad are not authorised for sale in the UK and that melatonin is a prescription-only medicine here. UK-sold sleep gummies are food supplements built from other ingredients.
Do Boots sell melatonin gummies?
This desk did not read the Boots range this run, so it cannot say what Boots stocks. The NHS page does say melatonin supplements are not authorised for sale in the UK, so any sleep gummy lawfully on a UK shelf, whoever the retailer, would be formulated without melatonin. Read the panel.
What do UK sleep gummies contain instead of melatonin?
The two UK panels read on 15 September 2026 use botanicals, amino acids and B vitamins. Novomins Night Time Gummies list magnesium citrate, zinc, niacin, B6, B12, biotin, inositol, chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, acerola, L-tryptophan, glycine, L-theanine and taurine. Mium Lab’s melatonin-free gummies list eschscholtzia, lemon balm, vitamin B6 and L-theanine.
A last point of order. Both UK products are sold as food supplements, not as licensed medicines, and nothing in this review is a therapeutic claim or a substitute for a pharmacist or GP, the right first call for any sleep problem lasting more than a few weeks.
